Teenager Aona Breid never expected his life to involve more than wrangling cats in a travelling circus. He certainly never thought he'd end up almost drowning in thousand-year-old Báleo wee. Some things are hard to predict. So, when Aona is gifted magical abilities by a Báleo, a new world of power, difficult choices and copious amounts of rancid tiddle opens up to him.
Swept into the backwater town of Rei Rhiol, Aona becomes embroiled in a sinister plot where children, including his little cousin Aimia, are being kidnapped. The main suspect is the town's strange and tyrannical ruler, known as the Majister, a powerful dark magician with plans to awaken a monstrous creature hibernating beneath the town.
With the lives of the missing children at stake, Aona must harness his magical abilities to thwart the Majister's plans. Alongside newfound allies — Tio, a quick-witted rogue, and Meg, a determined apprentice magician — Aona faces harrowing challenges that test his courage and resolve. He learns that practising magic exacts a heavy personal price.
It's up to Aona and his friends to vanquish the monster and the Majister before they become an unstoppable destructive force. Failure means not only the loss of many innocent lives, but also the potential destruction of everything Aona and his people hold dear.
